Event types

The "Pi of the Sky" trigger system performs on-line analysis of sky images in search for rapidly brightening point-like objects. Major source of false triggers are cosmic rays, flashing satellites and planes. Most of them are rejected by higher level trigger algorithms. Here are examples of different kinds of observed events.

Meteors

2011 03 29 / 1822 - meteor trace blown by a wind
2005 05 01 / 1947 / 3 - meteor explosion
2005 04 30 / 272 / 2 - meteor trace blown by a wind
2004 09 13 / 294 / 7 - meteor trace blown by a wind
2004 10 04 / 254 / 0 - meteor - spectacular!
2004 10 31 / 1699 / 0 - meteor - just beautiful!
2004 11 01 / 1548 / 4 - one more meteor

Planetoids

2011 11 08 / 378 - the planetoid 2005 YU 55 passed the Earth in November 2011
2011 09 29 / 147610 - a planetoid causing a brightening of a star

Cosmics

2004 09 15 / 940 / 3 - 2 cosmics visible @k2a and 1 @k2b, 15 cosmics in full frames - particle shower in the air caused by a cosmic ray

Planes

2004 09 12 / 435 / 7 - low altitude plane

2005 06 23 / 248 - 268 - this strange event is probably due to a plane

Satellites

2009 04 19 / 561 / 1 - Satellite glowing and flotilla of satellites

2007 03 17 / 1426 / 13 - flotilla of satellites

2006 09 15 / 1614 / 3 - other flotilla of satellites

2004 09 19 / 1375 / 2 - fast, bright satellite

2004 09 16 / 1475 / 2 - slow, faint satellite (+2 cosmics @k2b)

2004 09 04 / 1383 / 1 - pair of satellites coming out of the Earth shadow (+cosmic @k2b)

2004 08 23 / 1779 / 1 - rarely flashing satellite; frames -5 (right), 0 (center), 6 (right)

2004 09 02 / 1289 / 3 - two flashes, separated 6 min in time and 1.5o in space
2004 09 02 / 1262 / 2 - probably caused by the same, slowly moving, flashing satellite

2004 09 13 / 949 / 2 - single flash, somewhat elongated, probably a satellite
